Roger of Saint Marys, GA Verified Reviewer . The unit itself is rather cheap and the app needed to run it has never worked. So the unit is attached to my house and electrical service but has been completely un-monitored since day 1. This means it never does a test run-up, if the power goes out there's no way to control the stupid thing. I can't say enough the app to use is totally worthless. The technicians that work on this waste of space, are very expensive and the service contact has been useless (as the unit in new!), generac as been absolutely useless! I should have purchased a Kohler or nothing at all. I honestly wish I could pay someone to remove completely from house but I'm stuck with it like a virus! My last thought is I normally don't do reviews but I would recommend hitting yourself in the hand with hammer instead of wasting time and money on useless generac junk! I tried calling Generac and they are full of excuses and won't promise a delivery date. They say to not call them but rather call the installer. The installer is just full of excuses but that's another review. Today I called the installer again because now my power is out. She says I am on her list to call, says they have the motor and I am scheduled for next Tuesday (7 days away, hope my power comes back on). This installation cost me $11,000.00. 20 people found this review helpful . Erwin of Hephzibah, GA Verified Reviewer . 14 people found this review helpful . Generac Power Systems has been in the business since 1959, giving them plenty of time to develop and perfect their technology and transform their name into a trusted brand.
Their generators are frequently used products across the country, from home standby generators to portable machines. Generators can be super useful products. Generac power systems are great tools to own in case of emergency power failures due to natural disasters, or even planned outages from construction.
They can also be used in situations where power isn’t readily available, like camping areas and construction sites. They also provide great customer service. Today, we want to take a look at a few Generac generators to give you an idea of the choices you have within this reliable brand. After checking out just a few of their options, you can venture on to review more of their products. Perhaps you’ll even find the one you need below. 1 Generac Generator Reviews1.1 1. Generac 7117 Gp2200I W 50St1.2 2. Generac 6866 iQ20001.3 3. Generac 6864 Generator. Generac 7117 Gp2200I W 50St. Generac 6866 iQ2000. Generac 6864 Generator. 3 Generac for Power. The Generac 7117 Gp2200i is one of a handful of inverter generators designed, made, and sold by the Generac brand. It’s lightweight and compact yet oh-so powerful, allowing you to run all kinds of appliances for up to 10.75 hours! We’ve performed various tests and scoured its features to bring you a well-rounded review of its positives, negatives, specifications, and everything in between.
Let’s start by taking a look at the specs so that you can get a good feel for its capabilities right away.
The lightweight design ensures it is easy to maneuver. It comes complete with an economy mode that makes for great fuel economy. It’s fully CARB and EPA compliant, allowing you to use it no matter which state you live in. The compact design is great for storing in places with limited space. The handle is comfortable to make it even easier to lift and carry with you. We love that it provides both a USP port and a DC outlet. The run time is brilliant, especially when you consider the diminutive size of the generator. The economy mode also works to reduce noise.
The integrated on/off switch allows for easy operation. You can switch between “Choke,” “Run,” and “Stop.”. It’s fantastic for inexperienced users to get up and running with a powerful generator. It is parallel-ready. However, the kits are sold separately.
We noticed it overheats fairly easily when powering with higher loads.
Unfortunately, the economy mode doesn’t work well with high loads.
It’s not stated that you can use it in RVs.
However, plenty of customers have enjoyed using it on camping trips. The number of output ports and the running watts might be too low for hefty users. However, if you haven’t used a generator before, we’d say that it’s plenty to get started. Its running wattage is 100 watts less than its direct competitor. However, we’re very nit-picky here as it’s only a minor difference. There isn’t an electric start. Instead, it’s manual recoil only.
There is no data center. The Generac 5940 GP6500 portable generator gives you a lot of power to pull on two wheels. CSA-approved and CARB compliant, this durable and safe generator is great for your larger power needs. When you need more wattage but prefer the convenience of portability, it can be tough to know where to turn.
This Generac model gives you both of those features in one with their 5940 GP6500 product. With 6500 running watts and 8000 starting watts, this gas-powered machine sure does deliver. A convenient handle along with two sturdy wheels lets you take this model anywhere to use at home, on the job site, or during a sizable event.
The 389cc OHV engine is built for the long-term, displaying consistent and reliable power over long periods of time. With solid construction and durability, you’ll get a lot of use out of this product.
The fuel tank holds 7.2 gallons of gas, which lends 10 hours of run time at a 50% load. Safety features shut your machine off when your oil gets too low, protecting both you and your investment. An hour meter lets you easily read your run time, while the covered outlets stay protected while not in use. Size: 28.75 x 26.75 x 25 inches. Weight: 184 pounds. Starting Wattage: 8000. Tank Size: 7.2 gallons. Two 120V outputs, one 240V output. Starts easily on the first pull.
Efficient run-time and abilities. Easy to operate and assemble. Capable of powering most appliances in average size homes. Low oil sensor for safe automatic shutoff. Can be loud at times. Does not include USB ports. No remote monitoring. A diesel alternative to the other Generac products we’ve looked at, the 6864 model offers a moderate level of power for just the right amount you need for a variety of emergencies, projects, and situations. The Generac 6864 portable generator uses a diesel-powered engine for efficient and reliable power.
This engine is built to perform, using industrial-grade materials and air-cooled technology. Since diesel is more reliable, it means there is less work for you and as well as maintenance. The whole package is wrapped together securely using a durable, fully welded steel frame. This frame also makes it easy to carry and transport. Using what’s called True Power Technology, this generator offers less than 5% harmonic distortion. This means that all of your electronics, appliances, and tools will run smoothly with no hiccups or lag. This is perfect during a power outage and an excellent fit for backup power. The operation is easy using the simple control panel.
Everything is labeled, so you can quickly find the transfer switch, the hour counter, and the outputs.
It also includes an optional electronic start, although it requires you to purchase a battery.
Looking for a Smaller Generac Generator?
Size: 33.1 x 22.5 x 25.6 inches.Weight: 254 pounds. Starting Wattage: 550. Tank Size: 12 gallons. Four 120/240V outputs. Optional electronic start. Easy to read and use the control panel. The welded steel frame is sturdy and reliable. Large tank runs for 32.4 hours at 50% load. The diesel engine is reliable and low maintenance. Will not run without a battery due to fuel cut-off feature. Many consumers frequently asked common questions about products like the ones we have just discussed. Not all users of Generac generators are experts, so a little help can be a good thing. If you’ve read through our review and find that you still have some unanswered questions, take a look at this FAQ section; you might find the answers you’re looking for!
Quiet is a bit of a relative term when it comes to generators.
Truthfully, no generator is going to be 100% silent since you are essentially running an engine designed to power multiple other machines.
The noise level will be specific to your machine, and its features. Generally, a larger machine tends to produce more noise. A smaller generator (like an inverter generator) will be quieter. Also Read:Generac IX2000 vs IQ2000 Generator Comparison.
Generac companies function out of the United States and Canada, apart from the United States they do service countries internationally.
The answer to this question depends on what you plan on using your generator for.
Luckily, the Generac website has a generator calculator that can help you find the best product to suit your needs, whether you need a standby generator, whole house generator, inverter generator, portable generator or you need it just as a backup power source.

About Generac Power Systems
02/18/2022Ive purchased a unit that was defective form day one upon contacting them for a replacement they sent repair crews for months on end. After 6 months of repairs they got the unit to partially run. Now its no longer operational and they are not replacing the unit
We would be happy to discuss this consumer's concerns further, at ************. If the consumer is looking for assistance above and beyond warranty obligations, we would need for them to contact Generac Customer Support to have a case created for review. I do see that this consumer called in stating they are an electrician/installer-but not trained in this product and was having issues with the unit. The consumer was directed to a service dealer-who replaced the control board. Generac received a call from someone stating they were an electrician calling on this consumer's behalf asking about the engine and warranty status of the unit.
It is important to remember, that if any consumer is having issues with their product, they would need to call and discuss that with Generac directly.
#5 Generac’s 6864, Diesel Powered 5kW Portable Generator
02/17/2022Bought the GP2500 less than a year ago and had problems right away. Brought it to a "certified" tech and claims he couldn't find anything wrong with it. I got it back and used it for a couple hours and the motor seized up and now it's apparently my fault because they're claiming it was low on oil so it's a maintenance issue instead of being covered under warranty. What a joke! The unit has less than 15 hours total on it. You're product and warranty are garbage and will never get my business again.
We are certainly sorry to hear this consumer has had a less than desirable experience with our product. All products do need to be reviewed by an authorized service center who would determine if there was an end-user ( consumer error, such as poor upkeep or maintenance ) versus a manufacturing defect. Should the result be that it is determined to be a manufacturing defect, a warranty claim would be made-depending on the status of the warranty at the time of failure. Should the result be determined not to be a defect, the consumer would be billed for work. This is standard warranty practice.
#2 Generac’s 5734 15kW Gasoline Powered Whole House Generator
02/14/2022I bought a Generac 24 KW home standby generator that was activated 7/28/21. From the very first, the generator would throw a wiring error code and shut down when loaded. Sometimes it would load and run and sometimes it wouldn't. I called the company that installed it and they said Generac knew about the problem and were sending parts to repair. It was resisters at that time. The tech and I cranked and loaded it a couple of times and it worked. Then I believe on 9/23/2021 the power went out and it loaded and ran for about 30 minutes. All good. The next day the power went out again and it cranked, loaded, and shut down. I called Generac customer support and they looked up the closest authorized Generac tech and gave me the phone number. I called and the guy came down right away. He couldn't find any reason for it to be throwing that code. He took a fuse out and said that was it. He sent me a **** for $222.00. There was no reason to take the fuse out. Everything was installed correctly. I called the people that installed it and they said that it was a Generac problem. Generac was going to have to update the firmware. The people that installed it came out and installed the new firmware. There was no charge from them as it was a Generac problem. Now I have called customer support for ********************** and sent them the ****. They are refusing to honor their warranty and pay the ****. They said they did not pay warranty for an installation problem which this isn't. The generator was installed correctly to start with. Generac had to update the firmware and they know it.
We are certainly sorry to hear this consumer had a poor experience with the operation of their unit. We have escalated this matter to our resolution team who will be contacting this consumer today the 15th.

1- What is the reliability of Generac whole-house generators?
02/14/2022We received the letter from Generac back in February of 2021 about an important safety issue about our 17KW generator's fuel plenum. It said to call our local dealer and have the unit inspected immediately. Said the fuel plenum could have significant corrosion over time and could lead to fuel leakage during operation and fire. I called my local dealer and alerted them of the letter. They told me this type of corrosion usually only occurs around coastal areas and/or if the unit is installed where water can get into it. Nonetheless, I insisted they inspect it. They told me they would inspect it during my regular maintenance in May. I called them back in April to remind them.On 1/3/22, Virginia was hit with a horrific snow storm which caused major power outages and put Virginia in a state of emergency. We lost our power; generator came on as expected that day. We have separate propane tank used only for generator; it was 80% full. On/or about 1/5/22 we noticed a very heavy smell of propane in our garage; we immediately realized it must have something to do with the generator, so we shut it down. We contacted the Generac dealer who services our generator and once they were able to get out to our house they inspected the generator and discovered the fuel plenum had significant corrosion, resulting in the fuel leak. Our 500 gal propane tank was now down from 80% to 10% in just a day and a half. Only by the ***** of god, did it not catch on fire and cause serious damage. The dealer replaced the fuel plenum at no charge and when I questioned him about the inspection he told me that he had opted out of the Generac inspection program and that Generac was supposed to have contacted the customers or provided another dealer to do all the inspections. No one ever contacted us. I contacted Generac on 1/31/22. On 2/2/22 ***************************, Resolution Specialist contacted me; I sent her all my receipts for fuel; hotel stay and lost food. I have not heard back from them.
This consumer's concerns have been sent to the resolution specialist working on this case. That resolution specialist is the point of contact who can provide updates to this consumer.
